Mactac’s Eco-Conscious Labeling Innovations Shine at Labelexpo 2024
Christina Barajas, Sustainability Manager, to participate in key speaking engagements
STOW, Ohio – August 27, 2024 – Mactac®, a LINTEC® Company, will highlight its commitment to environmentally responsible innovation at Labelexpo Americas 2024, showcasing its Simply Sustainable® solutions. As a pressure-sensitive label industry leader, Mactac continues to push the boundaries of material design, manufacturing and reprocessing throughout the product life cycle. Attendees are invited to booth #143 to discover the latest recyclable plastic container labels, thinner release liners and post-consumer waste (PCW) labels that simplify recycling and enhance packaging sustainability.
Among the Simply Sustainable® items Mactac will feature are:
- APR®-recognized container labels
Products manufactured in accordance with the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Design® for Recyclability guidelines make it easier for brands and packagers to ensure that PET, HDPE and PP plastics are compatible with existing recycling systems.
- Thinner release liners
Mactac’s 1.6 mil Glassine paper liner and 1.2 mil PET liner are thinner than traditional liners. Thinner liners can provide 15–21% more labels per roll while curbing freight and packaging waste, reducing costs for converters and end users.
- Post-Consumer Waste labelstocks
Post-Consumer Waste labelstock reduces the need for virgin materials and helps promote the circular economy. All Mactac post-consumer waste products contain a minimum of 25% PCW material and are engineered to maintain top performance from cryogenic, oil tolerant and even tire applications.
In addition, Mactac’s Christina Barajas, Sustainability Manager, will participate in two key speaking engagements:
- AWA Label Release Liner Seminar 2024
Mon., Sep. 09, 12:00–13:00 (CDT)
Barajas will participate in a panel discussion on release liner and pressure-sensitive label sustainability, circularity and recycling. The session will delve into the successes and challenges of liner recycling and explore how the industry can continue to grow its recycling programs to reduce landfill usage.
- EcoStage Hosted by TLMI
Wed., Sep. 11, 11:00–12:00 (CDT)
Barajas will also join label industry leaders to promote environmentally conscious practices. The session will highlight Barajas’s ongoing participation in the Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute (TLMI) Liner Recycling committee, with a primary emphasis on release liner recycling for end-use customers. Attendees will leave with key takeaways on how to advance their own initiatives.
“Our Simply Sustainable® initiative is a comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship that extends beyond a single product line,” says Barajas. “It is a choice to ingrain best practices in everything we do, to become a part of who we are. From sourcing materials from sustainably managed forests to reducing waste in manufacturing, to exploring technologies that enhance recyclability, we’re driving meaningful progress every day.”
Barajas explains how this dedication recently earned Mactac Critical Guidance Recognition (CGR) from the APR for its innovative polypropylene application with hot-melt adhesive—a first in the industry—showcasing the company’s leadership in sustainable innovation within the pressure-sensitive label industry.
“It all starts with building a culture that values and celebrates responsible innovation,” Barajas adds. “These efforts encourage industries and businesses to implement more sustainable packaging, increasing consumer recycling rates and contributing to the global effort to protect our planet.”
